Donald talks about "Heaven & Earth Tektite with Fire Opal and Center Orb"
The light of the amethyst hue in this
transparent "tektite" form is sublime. Notice the light
reflect, refract, sparkle and dance, see and feel its delightful
transparent lavender color. This is de… light from heaven, which
is the inspiration of this art work.
The center Orb (middle image above) represents the universe and this cosmos has an inner occlusion that breaks the cosmic plane with the darker light of separation showing fracture. Earth forms the base which is a rock found in the wild and scenic Rogue River of Oregon. An Opal was set with silver bezel to adorn the rock, and depending on the conditions in which it formed, can take on fire colors which is caused by light diffraction. I think of the Fire Opal on the rock as the door bell entry to the heavens. This transparent amethyst hue tektite was blown from hot molten glass on Sanibel Island, Florida in 1984. While still hot, I exploded, fractured, and then flame polished it to make the piece appear to be wrought by the hand of nature out of some cosmic energy. Glass has often been called the sacrament of light and it becomes apparent in this piece as the transparent natural shape gives birth to this lovely, divine light.
I completed the construction and named the
piece Heaven and Earth Tektite, 7/7/11 because of the energy
connection of light emanating from this tektite art work and the
inspirations of Bridging Heaven and Earth.
